How Did Trail Blazing Get It’s Start?

Reiseplaner spezialisiert auf den amerikanischen Südwesten

Once upon a time there was a young American woman who met and fell in love with a wonderful German man…

The young American woman? That would be me — Kirsten. The German man? That’s Tommy. We are the founders of Trail Blazing LLC.

“All good ideas arrive by chance.” — Max Ernst

As a native to Arizona I’ve experienced nearly all the must-see tourist destinations in the American Southwest. Places like the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion (just to name a few). Tommy and I enjoy exploring this region and always find something new. We particularly love discovering places off the beaten path.

Deciding to divide my time between Arizona and Germany in 2015, my ability to speak and understand the German language grew along with my appreciation for European culture as a whole.

Tommy and I continued to explore the Southwest during our trips back to Arizona, but our perceptions on these journeys began to change. We were becoming increasingly more aware of the tourists traveling from all corners of the earth to experience The West.

That’s when a light bulb went off. What if we combined my knowledge of the region with Tommy’s German roots to give travelers a unique Southwest experience that no travel agency in their home country could match?

Our niche was born.

We would build highly-customized trip itineraries for travelers seeking one-of-a-kind experiences in the Southwest. We would blaze trails and pioneer new paths to adventures that showcased the breathtaking beauty I had been calling home for close to 30 years.

Partnering with Incentive Connection Travel — a family-owned host agency celebrating 20 years in the business — I am an Accredited Travel Agent. Making use of Sabre’s global distribution system, I have access to over 400 airlines, 175,000 hotel properties, 17 cruise lines, 40 car rental brands, 200 tour operators and 50 rail carriers within the travel marketplace.

More than that, I’ve developed professional relationships with travel outfitters all across the American Southwest outside this global network.

Setting us apart from European agencies.

Want to sleep in a traditional Navajo hogan and hear stories told by a member of the tribe? I can arrange that. Hike to Havusu Falls located within the exclusive Havasupai Reservation? I can make that happen. Backpack through the Grand Canyon away from the tourist crowds? No problem.

This is just a sample of the activities some European travel agencies might not be aware of. And if they are, they certainly won’t be able to offer the same cultural insights as a local.

Our mission is simple.

We want our fellow “wanderlusters” to enjoy unique lodging experiences surrounded by the Southwest’s most beautiful landscapes, have access to exclusive outdoor adventures, and more importantly, come home feeling rejuvenated without troubling themselves with the details.

Bringing minimalism to travel planning and you to the Southwest has become our new adventure. Join us!
